Optimize10 min readHow to compress an image without losing visible quality
To compress an image, re-encode it as JPEG or WebP at a quality around 75–85, and shrink its pixel dimensions if it’s larger than it will be displayed. This removes detail your eye rarely notices. PNG is lossless, so it only gets smaller through fewer pixels or simpler content.

Convert10 min readJPG vs PNG vs WebP: which image format should you use?
In the JPG vs PNG vs WebP choice, use JPEG for photos that must open anywhere, PNG for screenshots, text, and lossless transparency, and WebP for web pages, where it usually makes smaller files than both. Use SVG for logos and icons, and GIF only when you need a simple animation.

Edit10 min readHow to resize an image without losing quality
To resize an image without losing quality, scale it down from the original with the aspect ratio locked, to about the size it will be displayed, or twice that for high-density screens. Shrinking keeps images sharp. Enlarging can’t add detail, so upscaled images always look softer than the original.

Questions people ask
Is Image Edtr free?
Yes. There is no account, payment, or usage cap. The only limits are technical ones that keep your browser stable: files up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels, and 50 files per batch.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool reads and processes the file inside your browser, on your device. The production site also tells the browser to block requests to other websites, so an image cannot be sent elsewhere by mistake.
Which image formats are supported?
You can open JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, and AVIF when your browser can decode it, plus SVG in the SVG to PNG tool. You can save JPEG, PNG, and WebP where your browser can encode them.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Every tool and the photo editor work in current mobile browsers. Very large images may hit the phone's memory limit, in which case the tool explains what happened.
Is my original file changed?
No. Tools never modify the file you open. They create a new file that you download only when you choose to.
